Scillies and Lilies

New Ceramics on Display

This exhibition covers two of my favourite subjects....Scillies and lilies, but with a new twist of direction. Both of my subjects hold special meaning to me. My paintings are painted with acrylics on canvas, using fresh and bold colours to depict my fresh outlook at my well studied subjects. The Scilly Isles hold special memories and thoughout my travels over the world, still remain my most favourite place - there is a certain magic that I feel, embraced with dreamy colours, which I hope translates onto the canvas. Lilies are wonderful. I never cease to be amazed at how wonderful they are. From such unassuming and slightly uninteresting buds, emerge flowers of utter brilliance, colour and form. I always think each opening should be accompanied with a trumpet fanfare!

This exhibition also shows a new creative direction for me, away from paintings and into ceramics. This whole new world has opened up which I find in complete contrast to my paintings. You have to wait, wait and wait... design, fire and glaze and wait for the chemistry to work. I love the feel, texture and therapeutic way that clay demands of me. The element of control is not mine - (self-taught ) so the items that will be exhibited are my first, again influenced by the sea, sand and forms from my favourites - Scillies and Lilies.
